Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial roots that are used to replace the root portion of a missing natural teeth. Implants and their attached crowns closely mimic the look and function of real teeth. They are a fantastic alternative to dentures or bridges. Implants can be used to replaces one or several teeth.
- There are many advantages to implants
- Help to withstand greater bite pressures with dentures
- Prevent bone loss in the jaw
- Prevent the formation of hollowed or collapsed cheeks that can occur after teeth are extracted
- Are firmly secured in the jaw
- Are more comfortable than dentures
- Like natural teeth, are cleaned by floss and brushing with regular toothpaste
- Unlike bridges, do not require any adjusting and reshaping of neighbouring healthy teeth. At SmileBright Dental we consider implants to be a conservative approach to replacing missing teeth
A typical implant consists of a titanium fixture that is placed into the jaw bone. The implant can take around 12 weeks for the bone to bond with the implant, once this has occurred a tooth/crown can be attached into place to function as a tooth. The amount of time for the bone to bond to the implant can vary depending on the quality and quantity of the bone. It is increasingly more common to have the crown completed straight after the implant placement. This can be discussed in more detail of your expectations.

Implant supported dentures
Is your denture loose? Can you eat an apple or steak with no problems?
Implants are a fantastic option that can lock your dentures firmly in place… so you will never have a problem eating whatever you like again.
Dentures can be locked into place by placing as little as 2 titanium implants into the front of the jaw to offer amazing stability for the denture. The denture is then clipped onto the implants. This can improve and overcome ill-fitting dentures. Many of our patients that have had implants supported dentures have been disappointed that they didn’t do the treatment years earlier.
