Tooth Coloured Fillings

Many people have fillings made from amalgam which is an alloy consisting mainly of mercury and lead. Although amalgam has been widely used in dentistry successfully, there has been more talks about mercury poisoning from leaking restorations and it effects on general health.

At SmileBright Dental, after analysing cons and pros of all the materials available, we have concluded there are better alternatives to amalgam. We most commonly use restorative materials made from composite, glass ionomer and ceramic which are all tooth coloured restorations.

In our view, we do not actively replace old amalgam with tooth coloured restorations unless by other clinical indications or by request.
